Spoke Real Estate Capital is a real estate private equity firm whose main strategy is to provide joint venture equity to best-in-class operators and developers. The team creates opportunities for investors to achieve superior risk-adjusted returns alongside veteran operators in strong markets, utilizing joint venture structures. Spoke investments are independently executed with real estate operators that have achieved top-tier performance over multiple economic cycles in a specific region.
Since the team’s first transaction in 2007, Spoke has invested in over 12,000 units across 15 states. Spoke works closely with its operating partners, developing deep relationships with over a dozen strategic and economically aligned operators. Spoke looks to co-invest with these partners using a joint-venture structure, furthering aligning parties on all facets of the deal – sourcing, due diligence, asset management, and eventual asset sale.
Kaulig Capital’s longtime friends and trusted real estate partners, Chad Kiner and Jeff Morris, facilitated the introduction to Spoke’s Founder and Managing Partner, Michael Levin, and the rest of his team. Michael has more than 25 years of investment and asset management experience and has executed over $1 billion of real estate transactions as a principal. When the Kaulig team connected with Spoke, they began to cultivate a relationship with an investment in the Timber Ridge Apartments, a multifamily investment in Grand Rapids, Michigan.
Throughout the transaction, the Kaulig team’s excitement about Spoke and their investment pipeline continued to grow. Aligned on structure, deal criteria, capital preservation and appreciation, Kaulig Capital wanted to bolster and formalize its relationship with Spoke. Kaulig is now a committed source of capital for Spoke’s multi-family portfolio, and is an equity partner in three additional Spoke transactions including another in Grand Rapids, MI, as well as Boynton, FL and Largo, FL.
