Matt Kaulig, President and Owner of LeafFilter® North, Inc. and Kaulig Racing™ Inc., is a successful entrepreneur and business owner.
Born in Columbus, Ohio, and raised in Cincinnati, Matt moved to the Chicago area at age 14 where he attended high school. Matt came to Northeast Ohio to attend the University of Akron, where he was a standout quarterback for the Zips. Until this day, Matt remains heavily involved in the Akron Zips community as he provides aid for the school’s football programs and lends a helping hand in sponsoring events.
During his time at the University of Akron, Matt met his wife, Lisa, who was an Akron Cheerleader from Copley, Ohio. Falling in love with the area, Matt decided to establish roots in Northeast Ohio when he started LeafFilter® Gutter Protection in 2005 from the basement of his home.
Ten years later, his fast growing company grew from one small office in Hudson, Ohio, to the leading international gutter protection brand. LeafFilter® has been recognized nationally by numerous publications, earning awards for being a Top Remodeler in the nation and receiving recognition for the company’s growth and expansion.
Mr. Kaulig takes his decades of experience, combined with his entrepreneurial spirit, and has shifted into his newest role as Chairman of Kaulig Capital. Mr. Kaulig seeks to provide comprehensive investment and wealth management services while building long-term relationships with his clients.
Tim Clepper is the President of Kaulig Companies, Inc., headquartered in Hudson, Ohio. For 20 years, Tim has been in the asset management business and holds the Series 7, 9,10, 63, and 65 licenses. Tim’s career started at McDonald & Company Securities in 1997 in Private Wealth Management, where he was hired by Bill Summers Jr.
In 2002, Tim transitioned his practice to Robert W. Baird’s newly opened Cleveland, Ohio, branch office and helped cement the growing Midwestern bank’s presence in Ohio.
Increasing his focus on the wealth management and the planning needs of ultra-high net worth investors, Tim exited Baird in 2008 as a Senior Vice President in the Private Client Group and joined Morgan Stanley Smith Barney’s Global Wealth Management business, headquartered in New York City.
At 33 years of age, Tim was named Senior Vice President and Senior Portfolio Manager in Morgan’s Private Wealth Management Group. Disappointed in the shifting landscape of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney as a result of the 2008 financial crisis, Tim launched Ellsworth Private Wealth Management, LLC. In 2015, Ellsworth Private Wealth Management, LLC was formed with LPL Financial as custodian and Stratos Wealth Partners as Registered Investment Advisor.
In 2016, Matt Kaulig, Chairman, and Tim, President, launched Kaulig Capital, LLC, the first company under Kaulig Companies, Inc. Kaulig Capital, LLC is the family office for Matt and Lisa Kaulig, and is a boutique financial services firm. As the President of Kaulig Companies, Inc., Tim’s responsibilities are to provide leadership over Kaulig Capital, LLC, which includes overseeing investment management, direct real estate investments, private equity investments, cybersecurity, identity protection, and managing of the Kaulig Capital Family Office Fund 1 along with Matt Kaulig. Kaulig Companies, Inc. also owns Kaulig Racing, Inc., a race team in NASCAR’s Xfinity Series; Kaulig Media, LLC., a full-service marketing and advertising agency; as well as The Kaulig Companies Foundation and The Matt and Lisa Kaulig Family Foundation.
Tim graduated magna cum laude from Kent State University with a Bachelors of Business Administration degree in Finance. He is involved in several charities, including the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. He also started Santa PICsU, a 501(c)(3) organization, which was formed to bring the “healing power of the spirit of giving” to children and families in traumatic situations. Santa PICsU focuses on children and families who are in local Pediatric Intensive Care Units (PICUs) on a year-round basis.
In his spare time, Tim enjoys being with his family and everything that he can do outside, including hunting, fishing, skiing, golf, and coaching lacrosse. Tim has been married for 18 years to his wife, Amy. Together, they have three children and reside in Hudson, Ohio, where Kaulig Companies, Inc. is located.
Cameron Miele serves as a Managing Director of Kaulig Capital. His primary responsibilities include the origination, processing, and oversight of the firm’s private equity and private real estate investments.
Prior to joining Kaulig Capital, Cameron served as a Director and Principal with Weinberg Capital Group (WCG), a middle-market private equity firm headquartered in Cleveland, Ohio. WCG acquires private companies located throughout North America with a primary focus on businesses involved in manufacturing, business services, logistics, and value-added distribution. Prior to joining WCG, he was a Director and Partner with the investment bank of Brown Gibbons Lang & Company (BGL). At BGL, Cameron focused on mergers and acquisitions, capital raises, and financial restructuring for companies with enterprise values under $1 billion.
He began his career at McDonald & Company as an Analyst in the Energy Investment Banking Group. Over the course of a 20-year finance career, Cameron has participated in more than 70 merger and acquisition and capital raising transactions with a total value of approximately $7 billion. Cameron is a graduate of the University of Virginia with a degree in Economics. While at the University of Virginia, he was a four-year letterman for the men’s varsity track and field team.
Cameron is also involved with several local and national charities. He is a member of the Advisory Board for the Northern Ohio Chapter of A Kid Again, an Ohio-based charity that provides support for families raising children suffering from life-threatening illnesses and developmental disorders. In 2015, Cameron and his wife Katie founded the Cameron & Katie Miele Foundation. The family foundation is a registered 501(c)(3) nonprofit dedicated to helping families raising children suffering from life-threatening illnesses and developmental disorders, organizations benefiting our military and their families and higher education. Cameron and Katie live in Hudson with their three daughters.
Managing Director and CFO
Michael Cavanaugh has over 20 years of experience investing in, managing, and advising businesses and real estate investments.
Michael has specific expertise restructuring and growing underperforming investments and has served as an officer and board member of numerous companies in transition. Prior to joining Kaulig Capital, Michael was an interim management consultant with Conway MacKenzie in Cleveland and Chicago, a private equity partner at Resilience Capital in Cleveland, an M&A attorney with Kaye Scholer in Chicago, and a special situations investor and real estate investment banker with Merrill Lynch in New York City.
Michael earned a B.A. from Columbia University, J.D. from the University of Michigan Law School, and M.B.A. from the University of Michigan Business School. While at Columbia, Michael was awarded All-Ivy academic honors and was a runner-up for the Ivy League Player-of-the-Year award as quarterback and team captain of the Columbia Lions football team.
Michael holds the Chartered Financial Analyst designation and is an Attorney, Certified Public Accountant, Certified Turnaround Professional, and is Accredited in Business Valuation. Michael is also a member of the Board of Trustees of the Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Foundation.
Michael and his wife, Holly, live in Shaker Heights with their three children.
Dominic Brault joined Kaulig Capital in April 2017. He works directly with Matt Kaulig on providing strategic, financial, and operational oversight for existing investments and evaluating new opportunities. He also leads the company’s investment banking practice.
He has extensive experience in the field of valuation, M&A, capital raising, and investing. Prior to joining Kaulig Capital, Dominic worked in a similar capacity as a Principal at HTV Industries, Inc., a Northeast Ohio-based private investment holding company. He was also a Managing Director at Carleton McKenna & Company, a boutique investment bank, where he advised middle-market companies on mergers and acquisitions, capital raising transactions, fairness opinions, and other strategic advisory engagements.
From 2005 to 2011, Dominic was with Stout Risius Ross, Inc., where he provided financial advisory services to public and private companies on complex finance and accounting matters, including fairness and solvency opinions; purchase and sale advisement; financial and tax SEC/GAAP/IRS reporting; employee stock ownership plans; shareholder disputes; and other corporate, tax, and litigation-related matters. He began his career as an equity research analyst and was one of the original eight founding members of Longbow Research, an independent institutional equity research firm.
Director of Operations
Michele accepted her position at Kaulig Capital, LLC in February of 2017. Here at Kaulig Capital, Michele maintains the day to day operations, making sure all is running smoothly. She’s been involved in the Administrative field for over 20 years.
Michele is a firm believer that respect and kindness matter, and are important factors in life. She enjoys helping others – from keeping them on time and schedule, to going that extra mile to make sure everything comes together.
Michele strives daily to be the best that she can, giving of her time and talents. Her field of expertise started in financial planning. She then moved on to insurance, real estate, and then to a completely new direction with manufacturing and distribution. Since working at Kaulig Capital, Michele has been an immense help with the Santa PICsU Charity and other charity ventures that Kaulig Capital happily supports.
She is an Ohio native, and her favorite vacation spot is Walt Disney World, where she has visited over 10 times since first being introduced to it at 8 years old. In her spare time, Michele enjoys spending time with her family and friends.
